The Government Of Canada Helps St. John's Residents Gain Skills And Jobs

ST. JOHN’S, NL - The Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Minister responsible for Newfoundland and Labrador, and Member of Parliament for St. John’s South–Mount Pearl, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, today announced funding for the Vera Perlin Society to help 46 unemployed workers with developmental disabilities in the St. John’s area re-enter the work force. “The Government of Canada is committed to creating the best educated, most skilled, and most flexible work force in the world,” said Minister Hearn. “Not only will our investment help 46 people with developmental disabilities in the St. John’s area find and keep quality jobs, but it will also benefit local employers and the local economy.” The Vera Perlin Society will receive $106,684 in funding for the project from Service Canada’s Employment Assistance Services program. The job search and employment preparation workshops conducted under the project will help individuals gain the skills they need to find and maintain employment. This project reflects the Government of Canada’s commitment to creating a strong economy for all Canadians. Through its Advantage Canada plan, the Government is building on Canada’s strengths and creating a global competitive advantage by reducing taxes for all Canadians, increasing competition in the marketplace, and building modern infrastructure.
